Apply for and manage a Square Credit Card
About Square Credit Card
Square Credit Card is currently invite-only for eligible Square sellers, and can be used anywhere American Express (AMEX)® is accepted.
There are no late fees, annual fees, foreign transaction fees, or any other fees for using Square Credit Card. Applying for a Square Credit Card does not impact your credit and if you ever miss a payment, it won’t impact your credit score.
Before you begin
The maximum transaction limit for credit card purchases is $25,000.
Your Square sales volume is one of the main factors that determine your credit limit, which can increase as your business grows.
Your interest rate can go up or down if you have significant changes in your Square sales. You can find the interest rate of your credit card in the Banking tab in Square Dashboard. If your interest rate changes, we’ll notify you via email.
When you begin your billing cycle with no carried balance, you have about a month grace period before you may be charged any interest.
If you don’t pay your bill in full every month, the unpaid amount becomes a carried balance. You’ll pay interest on this balance and any new purchases until you pay off your carried balance in full and begin a new cycle.
Order a credit card
To check your eligibility for Square Credit Card, sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Banking.
Eligibility for a credit card requires verification through our banking partner. If your information can’t be verified, you won’t be able to use the Square Credit Card.
If we can’t verify your business information, enter your business name and EIN exactly as it appears on your government issued SS-4 in your application.
It can take up to 2 weeks to receive your card in the mail. If you don’t receive it within 2 weeks or if you need to change your delivery address, contact us.
Add your credit card to your digital wallet
You can add your credit card to your digital wallet so you can use your card quickly and conveniently on your mobile phone. If you’ve ordered a credit card but it hasn’t arrived in the mail, you can make purchases by using the virtual credit card.
You can find your virtual card details via email.
Manage credit card payments
- Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Banking > Credit card.
- Select Make a Payment and choose how much you want to pay by using the slider.
- Review your payment information and click Pay > Done.
Once you make a credit card payment, it’s posted immediately.
Setting up autopay will automatically pay your credit card balance every month. You can choose whether you want to pay your full bill, the statement balance, or just the minimum payment. To enable or disable autopay:
- Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Banking > Credit card.
- Select Autopay settings.
- Toggle Autopay on or off > Save.
Manage credit card transactions
Transactions are declined due to one of the following reasons:
- Incorrect CVV or expiration date. Your CVV code is a four-digit number located on the back of your card. Once you activate your physical card, it comes with a new CVV and expiration date.
- Your physical card is not yet activated.
- Entering an incorrect zip code. Double check the zip code associated with your credit card in Square Dashboard.
- You’ve reached your credit limit.
- Your purchase is over $25,000. If your purchase is over the maximum transaction limit, you can split your purchase into multiple transactions.
Some businesses place a temporary charge on your card to ensure that you have enough funds to cover your purchase. Most pending authorizations clear within three days, but it can take up to 14 days to clear.
You can file a dispute for any transaction on your credit card within 60 days after the disputed item appears on your statement. To file a dispute, fill out the Square Credit Card Dispute Form and submit your claim.
Once you submit the form, Square will forward your claim to our partner card network for further review. You’ll receive a decision regarding your dispute within 60 days via email.
Manage a lost or stolen credit card
If you’ve lost your credit card, or if your card has been stolen, you can reorder a new card from Square Dashboard. To do so:
Sign in to Square Dashboard and go to Banking > Credit Card.
Click Problem with Card and select the reason for reissuing your credit card from the menu.
Deactivate and replace your card > Continue.
Confirm or edit the shipping address for your new card > Looks good.
Click Done to submit your request.
Once you’ve submitted your card re-issuance request, you’ll see a confirmation of the delivery date. You’ll have access to your virtual credit card information in Square Dashboard until your new card arrives, and you can use your virtual card information to make purchases immediately.
Note: You can request to reissue your credit card once every 14 days, and a maximum of two reissuances every 60 days. If you lose a reissued card within this timeframe and can’t request another one, contact us and we can assist.
