Create items with Square for Retail
About items
Items are sellable goods that make up your Item library. With Square for Retail Free and Square for Retail Plus, you can manually create items to sell from your business.
You have three options for manual item creation with Square for Retail:
From your Item library in Square Dashboard
From the Square Retail POS app on an iOS device
From the Square Retail POS app on Square Register and Square Terminal
Before you begin
To manually create items with Square for Retail, you will need to have a Square for Retail Free or Square for Retail Plus subscription. Learn more about subscription features and how to sign up for Square for Retail. You will also need access to your Square Dashboard, the Square Retail POS app on an iOS device, Square Register, or Square Terminal.
Create an item
- Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Items & orders > Items > Item library.
- Click Create item.
- Fill out the item details, including item type, name, image, description, and location availability.
- If applicable, add item options, variations, stock quantity, and modifiers.
- Click Save.
- Open the Retail POS app and tap ≡ More > Items > All items.
- Tap Create item.
- Fill out the item details, including item type, name, image, description, and location availability.
- If applicable, add item options, stock quantity, variations, modifier set, and select a category.
- Tap Save.
When you create an item from the Retail POS app, it will not be available at your other locations. You can enable items across multiple locations from your Square Dashboard.
- Sign in on your Square Register or Square Terminal and select Square for Retail as your point of sale.
- Tap ≡ More > Items > All items.
- Tap Create item.
- Fill out the item details, including item type, name, image, description, and location availability.
- If applicable, add item options, stock quantity, variations, modifier set, and select a category.
- Tap Save.
When you create an item from the Retail POS app, it will not be available at your other locations. You can enable items across multiple locations from your Square Dashboard.
